Nagai/Huebner/Takeshi
The Trio Nagai/Huebner/Takeshi is a longtime collaboration between 3 established New York musicians and improvisers. They performed together at New York institutions like Spectrum, Shape Shifter Lab, Scholes Studio, National Sawdust and the Progressive Chamber Music Festival. The 3 instrumentalist on the violin, the piano and percussion combined with electronic effects create a new sound through a mixture of written scores, improvisation and sound painting.
Between all styles of music, there is a delicate balance between the prescribed material and spontaneity. Even a highly complicated original, written down with extreme precision, requires the soul and energy of the artist in order to give breath and space to the composition in concert. The slightest musical impulse can enliven a composition and thus raise it to a higher level. It’s this mystical gray musical area, Nagai/Huebner/Takeshi move with their trio and follow an unmistakably clear path. Starting from a traditional model, the existing is redefined and remodeled, as it could be. All three see performing as composers and instrumentalists. Nagai/Huebner/Satoshi take the prescribed material very seriously, but are ready to improvise impulsively and forget everything in the moment and let intuition lead the way.
